/ist/PPKM Removed, Tourism Sector Predicted to Revive
President Joko Widodo’s decision to officially lift the PPKM (enforcement of restrictions on community activities) is considered as a breath of fresh air for both domestic and international tourists.
Tourism observer, Chusmeru, said that the removal of PPKM could have a psychological impact on travelers. It can be said that the status of Covid-19 in Indonesia is under control.
“The lifting of PPKM will have a significant impact on the tourism industry. This is related to the increasing mobility of the public. Also, foreign tourists are interested in visiting Indonesia, as it is considered a safe destination,” he said cited from Liputan6.com, Saturday (31/12/2022).
However, Chusmeru predicted that the level of tourist visits is expected to slowly recover in 2023. This is due to the global economic crisis that has hit several countries and the domestic economy that has not yet fully recovered from the pandemic.
“If the government officially declares an endemism, it will have a greater impact on the tourism sector. Especially on transportation, accommodation, tourist attractions, and activities,” he added.
In addition, he considered that the Meeting, Incentive, Convention, Exhibition (MICE) business will be promising after the lifting of PPKM. For example, exhibitions, meetings, seminars, and conferences will be more lively because there are no restrictions on visitors.
