At least four world-scale sporting events will take place throughout 2023 in Indonesia, including in Bali, which is projected to generate USD 500 million in tourism income.
“The projected tourism income is estimated to reach USD 5.9 billion in total, and from sport tourism we aim to possibly receive up to USD 500 million,” said the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno.
Furthermore, the four sporting events being held align with the strategy of increasing foreign tourist visits, which is targeted to reach 7.4 million people in 2023.
“We are carefully calculating the target, including its budget, as we want the preparation and expenditure to be proportional to the tourism income gained by the country,” explained Sandiaga Uno.
One of the events is the F1 Powerboat that will be held in Lake Toba, Balige District, Toba Regency, North Sumatra on February 24-26, 2023.
This international-level speed boat race is expected to attract around 25,000 tourists, which will have a direct impact on the local economy, according to Sandiaga Uno.
